Hello,
I'd like to outline what I envisage KG4 being about.
The aim of KG4 is to provide an organised yet relaxed environment for pilots who want to fly level bombing missions. The primary airframe of KG4 will be the He-111. I would like to provide an environment where pilots can fly online, as a group, in order to achieve a stated mission objective. It is important that this is done in a relaxed atmosphere with a sense of humour.
KG4 will not have a rank structure and all pilots will be encouraged to fly as the lead aircraft and control the sortie. KG4 is aimed at pilots who enjoy flying the He-111, who enjoy the challenge of navigating to a target area, locating the target and conducting a bomb drop from altitude and getting the aircraft home again.
KG4 will operate online concentrating on servers such as Tactical Air War and Random Expert and Wings of Liberty. These servers provide bomber focused objectives and have the challenge of no map navigation icons (except WoL) as well as having other players as enemies. As well as flying these 'operational' flights, as a prepared KG4 sortie or as an ad-hoc get together, KG4 will also have training flights based on a locally hosted MP game (subject to gaining server key access).
Should KG4 develop successfully I'd be keen for KG4 to be able to contribute back to the IL-2 community in some way.
I'd like KG4 to operate both in IL2-BoX and also IL2- CloD (using the TF mod) giving an Eastern and Western theatre of operations but for now the focus is in the East.
About me,
I'm from Kent in the UK, I'm a military veteran and I'm in my 40's & married. I've been flight simming since I had a ZX Spectrum as a kid. Most of my flying for the past few years has been in DCS, and its earlier iterations of Lock On Modern Air Combat (LOMAC). I started a squadron there, which is still going strong, but I had to hand the reigns over after a number of years. I must admit to having fallen out of love with DCS recently having been busy with work and DCS began to feel like it was missing...something. After finally purchasing IL-2 BoS I realised it's the sense of immersion which IL-2 delivers in spades. So why fly bombers? Well, in all my flight sim years it's always been about fighters and with dogfighting I feel like I've kinda been there and done that. Flying a bomber offers a new group of challenges. I enjoy the whole process start to finish; planning, taxi & take off, transit to target, the drop, the return transit and landing. It feels more satisfying then fighter work (take off, have fight, return/die) or maybe it's because I'm in my 40's and flying a bomber is a bit more sedate!
